Living Wage Database
Living wage is a key dimension for a sustainable wage policy. Offering a wage sufficient to provide workers and their families goods and services they need for acceptable living standards is a key condition for having them participating decently in the life of society.
The FWN is collecting living costs data in almost all countries. In particular, the FWN is carrying two types of surveys on a regular basis:
- Surveys among workers at different levels of income who report on their different family basic expenditures, that allow us to capture the level and structure of household’s consumption.
- Surveys in local markets and local shops to capture the prices of basic goods and services that enter into households’ consumption. The combination of these two sources of data allows the FWN to calculate living wage benchmarks in nearly 200 countries and 3500 localities in the world. These living wage data are adjusted every year. Latest annual update was completed early October 2024.
