Germany introduced a national legal minimum wage (of €8.50 per hour) for the first time from first January 2015. The new minimum wage took effect on January 1st, 2015.A few months later, the transition is still on-going, and some achievements but also limitations can already be identified.

For the first time, labour unions, employers and the Macedonian government agreed to set a minimum wage

Under the deal, announced by Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski on Saturday (October 1st), workers must be paid at least 130 euros monthly. The agreement will increase the incomes of about 65,000 workers whose pay is not up to this standard. The law on the minimum wage is due to enter into force in 2012.

Social partners agreed minimum net wage

Three social partners – the government, employers and trade unions agreed Saturday minimum net wage to be Denar 8.050 or gross wage Denar 12.265 in the FY Republic of Macedonia. Defined level of minimum wage refers to basic wage with full time work i.e. the amount does not include wage supplements. If the employee does not accomplish expected results the minimum wage will be ade-quately decreased. - For the first time in the history of independent, FYR Macedonia after 20 years of negotiations of different teams – political, economic and trade unions, the agreement for defining minimum wage was reached.

Malaysia introduces a minimum wage for the first time to cover all workers employed in the private sector. This decision follows a process of tripartite negotiations between the government, employers’ and trade unions’ representatives, and of technical advice from the International Labour Office. This responds to the objective ‘to support low income workers and households and to progressively transform the country into a high-income nation by 2020’ as stated on that occasion by government’s officials.
